Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  There were dozens of traffic wrecks and mishaps around southeast Minnesota Thursday, mainly because of the light snow that fell across the region.

One of the wrecks in Rochester involved a city police car.

Ironically, the officer was leaving the scene of an accident when an approaching vehicle lost control and slid into the front driver's side of the squad. The officer was taken to St. Marys Hospital where he was checked out and released.

The accident happened around 8:00 AM in the 1800 block of Baihly Hills Dr SW.

Roads may get greasy again Friday because of expected snow. The National Weather Service is predicting 1-2 inches of snow by late afternoon or early evening.

Motorists are also being warned of the bitterly cold weather that will affect the entire state during the final weekend of 2017. In the Rochester area, temperatures are expected to drop below zero Friday night and stay there until sometime Tuesday.  Low temps could approach -20 by Monday morning.
