Fake "holidays" or days of special designation are popping up left and right with seemingly everything having its own day. And for the most part it's all in fun. What might be the most adorable of these new days is National Puppy Day, celebrated on March 23!

Puppy day may have you thinking about getting a cute little fuzzy ball of joy, but the goal is actually to raise awareness. According to the website Nationalpuppyday.com, "it's a day to help save orphaned puppies across the globe and educate the public about the horrors of puppy mills. National Puppy Day was founded in 2006."

Everyone loves to see little puppies, but all dogs need a good, loving home and National Puppy Day actually to encourages adoption, which includes senior dogs. "National Puppy Day encourages you to always consider adoption first and don't forget the importance of spaying and neutering to reduce the overpopulation of unwanted pets and unnecessary suffering," according to the National Puppy Day website.

Here at KDHL and Power 96, we are big animal lovers, and each week, I share the Pet of the Week, showcasing a pet currently available for adoption.
