Today, January 18, is a sad day for Eagles fans and fans of classic rock in general. Today is the anniversary of the death of founding member/singer/songwriter Glenn Frey. He passed away one year ago on this day at the Columbia University Medical Center due to complications of rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia while still recovering from gastrointestinal tract surgery.

Frey had enjoyed fame with the Eagles and as a solo artist, scoring 24 Top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 during his storied career. He won six Grammy Awards and five American music Awards as part of the Eagles and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the first year that they were nominated back in 1998.

Frey also enjoyed acting starring in television shows like Miami Vice, Wiseguy, Nash Bridges and HBO's Arliss. He also appeared in a couple movies including Let's Get Harry and Jerry Maguire.
