Minnesota State Senator John Jasinski of Faribault has authored a bill that would help clean up the Roberd's Lake area after last September's tornadoes hit that area particularly hard.  The tornadoes took down numerous trees, the tops of scores of others, threw large branches, roofing materials, siding, dock parts and more into and around the lake.

Senator Jasinski's bill authorizes $100, 000 to help clean up debris and help offset local fundraising efforts.  Senator Jasinski says, "All the debris poses a significant danger to visitors who enjoy swimming, fishing and waterskiing in the lake's refreshing waters.  The state has made a commitment to help communities clean up after severe storm damage and emergencies, and these resources will help restore the lake to prime condition for summer.  I am 100% committed to making sure that the lake is safe for the 2019 tourism season."

The Roberds Lake Association has been working with officials in Rice County and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources as well as the Cannon River Watershed Partnership to secure local funding and volunteer resources to help with the cleanup.

Senator Jasinski's bill was referred to the Environment and Natural Resources Committee where it awaits a hearing.

This weekend the Roberds Lake Club is having their 1st Annual Ice Golf Scramble on the lake tomorrow with headquarters at Winjum's Shady Acres Restaurant.  Tee time is 11:00 a.m. with a Texas Scramble (best ball) shot gun start.  Please bring your golf club of choice and some tennis balls.  Entertainment will be provided by Still Trucking from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

There will be door prizes, a costume contest for the best team theme.  Register your three and four person teams at www.roberdslakeclub.com/icegolf  or phone 507-334-8778.

Organizers hope to use proceeds to help preserve Roberds Lake waters for future generations through weed, algae control and stocking.  They also hope to raise enough funds to help with cleanup from last fall's storms.
