Kasson-Mantorville Defeats Goodhue Without Scott

The Kasson-Mantorville Komets defeated Goodhue 52-49 Tuesday night while not having their 6-foot-2 post Kristin Scott on the floor for most of the game. Scott went down with a ankle injury in the first half and never returned.

Kasson-Mantorville head coach Ryan Haraldson told KDHL after the win Scott will be OK and the important thing is to get her healthy for the playoffs in just a few weeks.

Entering Tuesday's game, Goodhue had the best scoring defense in the Hiawatha Valley League and the Komets ranked sixth in the 12-team conference. Goodhue was third and the Komets fourth in the league in scoring offense.

Scott was attempting to grab a rebound when she landed awkwardly and turned the ankle. The Ms. Basketball candidate has already committed to play next season at Iowa State and had four points when she left the game in the first half.

Her replacement was 5-foot-11 senior Meredith Wright, and man did she play well in the game. In fact, Wright may have been the difference in the contest with a go-ahead bucket late and big steal. She finished with nine points, including a three-pointer.

Five-foot-3 senior guard Mikayla Grant was the only Komet in double figures with 14 points, and 5-foot-4 sophomore guard Bailey Berge had nine points.

Goodhue was paced by 5-foot-8 senior Maddy Miller with 16 points, and 6-foot junior Sydney Lodermeier added 12 points.

The Wildcats were 16 of 19 from the free throw line and Kasson-Mantorville was 10 of 19. The Komets had four three-point baskets and Goodhue had five in the game, and Kasson-Mantorville finished with 18 turnovers to the Wildcats' 14.

Points off turnovers were even at 14 apiece, according to our Baker-Borgstrom-Durst Accounting and Tax Service of Kasson statistics. The difference appeared to be the bench, where Kasson-Mantorville had 13 points and Goodhue eight.

The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak for Goodhue and extended the Komet win streak to five games.

The Gold Division-leading Komets host Lake City on Friday and go to Pine Island on Monday before a showdown with Rochester Lourdes at home next Tuesday.

Goodhue plays Friday in Hayfield and hosts Kenyon-Wanamingo on the radio next Tuesday.

The No. 4 ranked Class 3A Kasson-Mantorville Komets are now 15-4 and the No. 2 ranked Class A Goodhue Wildcats are 16-3.
