Kasson-Mantorville Downs Bethlehem Academy in Four Sets

The Kasson-Mantorville Komets successfully got the volleyball to their top hitter Monday night in a victory at Van Orsow Auditorium on the Bethlehem Academy Campus.

6'0 junior Payton Suess has been playing a long time for the Komets and unofficially I had her collecting 20 kills in the their win over the Cardinals.

The most recent Minesota Volleyball Coaches Association poll had Bethlehem Academy  ranked 4th in Class A and Kasson-Mantorville 7th in Class 2 A)

Bethlehem Academy Head Coach Franz Boelter told KDHL before the match his team needed to cut down on it's errors.

Kasson-Mantorville won the first set 25-16 and I tallied 12 Cardinal errors.

Bethlehem Academy captured the second set 25-23 and had 9 errors.

The Komets won the fourth set 25-20 and the Cardinals had 10 errors and Kasson-Mantorville won the fifth set 25-14 thanks in part to 11 Cardinal errors.

That's 42 errors in the four sets.  I'm talking hitting errors, serving errors, block errors, serve reception errors, in the net.  I might have even missed a few.

Komet Head Coach Adam VanOort told KDHL before the match his team had not been very consistent to date either and were making too many mistakes.

Kasson-Mantorville had 8 errors in their fourth set win Monday night.

5'10 sophomore Emily Terry also had double digit kills for the Komets and 6'0 junior Abbey Bigelow had some awesome digs and used her height at the net to assist on blocks.

5'4 junior libero Bailey Berge also had a nice night for Kasson-Mantorville taking some hard to handle balls and making very good passes out of them.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the match were senior Mary Campbell and sophomore Hailey Lang who led the team in kills on a night when points for the Cardinals were at a premium.

It was just the second match back for eighth grade setter Abby Jandro and Coach Boelter knows she needs to knock some rust off.

For the most part I thought she was steady but again it's hard to tell when your offense performs poorly and never really got into a rhythmn.

The Cardinals host United South Central Thursday before heading to the prestigious Apple Valley Tournament this Friday and Saturday.

Kasson-Mantorville is at Goodhue Tuesday and hosts Triton Thursday night before going to the Class 2A Volleyball Showcase this weekend.
