I'll be in Zumbrota today through Friday for the KDHL AM Minnesota program, visiting with various people from the Goodhue County Fair.

Past Fair Board President Jim Foss will basically be co-hosting the show, helping us track down people to talk to at the fair.

The show airs 9:30-10AM each morning and, frankly, what I enjoy about it is we roam the fairgrounds. Today we will probably do a fair preview from the Fair Office, but the remainder of the week we jump on Jim's golf cart and travel the fairgrounds.

I love this fair because they are who they are, a rural fair.

There's a lot of free entertainment on the grounds again this year.

Wednesday thru Saturday Kid's Activities hosted by the Goodhue Co. Historical Society (schoolhouse, Noon to 8 p.m.)

Visit the Schoolhouse and see if you are smarter than a 1940s 8th grader!  This family-friendly game that combines “Jeopardy!” and “Are You Smarter Than a 8th Grader” will test if you can pass all 5 subjects and get to the top of the class.  Participants will answer questions taken from actual 1940s middle school tests as they try to score enough points to pass each subject and graduate. Activity sheets and coloring pages from the 1940s & 50s will also be available for visitors!

There is a free grandstand show at 7PM today featuring a Lawn Mower Derby, and there will be a special kids power wheels contest. It's a hoot.

Friday night country artist Mark Chesnutt headlines the grandstand along with Josh Thompson, Maiden Dixie and Diesel Drive. Concert-only pre-sale tickets are $25 and available at these locations:

  • Joe's Mobil in Red Wing (609 Plum Street)
  • Kwik Trip in Zumbrota
  • Kwik Trip in Rochester (3111 Wellner Drive NE)
  • C-Store in Goodhue
  • Zumbrota Ford

At the door - $40
All tickets are general admission - standing room and seating available.

I hope you can listen at 9:30AM and learn more about the Goodhue County Fair in Zumbrota. Better yet, I hope to see you at the fair.
