The Faribault Falcons had a 4-2 lead early, but before you could blink they were down double digits in Red Wing on Tuesday night.

The Wingers showed why they are 16-0 overall and 13-0 in the Big Nine and ranked No. 2 in Class 3A boys basketball in Minnesota with a 71-46 win.

From a basketball fan standpoint they are a joy to watch because they hunker down on defense and share the ball, rarely over-dribble and just get after the rebounds.

Their best player, 6-foot-4 Travis Toivonen, makes his teammates better by getting them the ball with open five footers and threes. So much attention has to be paid to Toivonen it opens up shots for those around him.

Red Wing led 30-13 at the half, scoring 11 points off eight Falcon turnovers and, in the end, outscored Faribault 17-6 at the free throw line.

The Wingers had four players score in double figures, led by Toivonen's 16 and Ben Munson's 16.

Faribault had no players in double figures and were led by Kade Hart and TJ Hunt with eight apiece.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance Agents Jason Krohn and Tony Langerud player of the game was Chase Ernste. Ernste finished with six points and battled on the glass for the Falcons. Faribault is now 6-6 in the league and 9-7 overall.

Elsewhere in the Big Nine, John Marshall kept pace with Red Wing with an 82-30 dominance of Rochester Century. Austin is also still in the hunt for the title after defeating Winona 77-60. Owatonna downed Rochester Mayo 66-61.
