There are a lot of interesting activities going on near the Rice County Historical Society Museum on the east end of the Rice County Fairgrounds this week.

The sewing and quilting demonstrations were moved into the air-conditioned Carlander Room in the building addition.

Thursday I had the pleasure of visiting with 15-year-old Samuel Temple of Faribault. The interview will be aired about 1:10 Friday afternoon on KDHL 920 AM.

Temple has a very popular video program about history primarily in Faribault titled "1855." A Northfield teen is working with him on the project. 1855 is the year Faribault was incorporated.

I won't reveal specifics of the interview because I want you to listen, but I will say Temple is a well-spoken young man. We talked about how he got his passion for history.

Temple and his co-producer have completed segments on Fleck's Brewery and Liz Strohfus. "1855" is available on the FCTV website and on VIMEO.

I did ask Samuel what his next segment will be and he said they haven't decided yet, but Burkhartzmeyer Shoes is on their list, one of Faribault's iconic businesses.

One of my favorite demonstrations is the blacksmith area. I interviewed these guys last year at the Rice County Fair, and they really enjoy their work. You can see all kinds of trinkets and tools they've made.

The guys working the blacksmith demonstration told me the skill is making a comeback.
