This week, I've had the chance to shake up my usual routine and spend some time in the KRFO and Kat Kountry 105 offices in Owatonna helping out during the Steele County Free Fair. Being just a stone's throw away from the biggest county fair in Minnesota, I couldn't miss out on all the fun and found myself competing in an epic showdown!

Spending the week in Owatonna also brought the chance to meet KROC's and Quick Country of Rochester's Samm Adams, who is also helping out during the fair. Samm and I have quite a bit in common. We're around the same age, have both been in radio for roughly the same amount of time, and clearly, we are both witty and fun loving. When it was suggested that the two of us should battle it out at one of the biggest attractions at the fair, the KRFO Ladies Nail Driving Contest, we both accepted the challenge and set aside our newfound fondness for each other and prepared to compete with the gusto of the Olympic athletes competing in Rio.  DJ against DJ, there can be only one Nail Driving Champion.

Samm, a bubbly blonde, taunted that she had hammer skills. Believing this to be a bluff, I prepared myself mentally for the speed, precision and strength that would be needed in this competition. We began with a nail tapped in just a bit, and at first strike, my nail popped out, which put me at an immediate disadvantage. Knowing that with each swing of the hammer, she was getting ahead, after I completed my first nail, I decided I could not make up the time lost the traditional route, but I could think outside the box and strike two nails at once.

Samm may have bested me this time, but I have officially challenged her to a rematch next year!
