Kenyon Police Chief Lee Sjolander confirmed during the KDHL Midday Report today he has been invited to the White House. Sjolander will be attending a Presidential Task Force on 21st Century Policing Briefing.

He told us he replied to an email asking if he was interested in attending and then received another email requesting more information. After not hearing for quite a while he said he just thought a larger department was chosen to take part. Then recently he received another email telling him he was accepted if he wanted to attend.

Sjolander says he's a bit nervous and feels blessed to be invited and appreciates the support he's received from the Kenyon City Council and city administrator.

The Kenyon police chief has been a big advocate of community policing but says he's not sure why he was invited.

This will be his first visit to Washington, D.C.

Sjolander recalls when he received the first email he thought maybe it was a scam or something, but after the reply following his initial response he knew it was legitimate.

Sjolander says he doesn't know how many law enforcement professionals have been invited to attend the event at the White House.

I told him how much I enjoyed seeing a big yellow sign with black lettering in the police station window that says "Every Life Matters." He says he believes that so much he had the sentence tattooed on his arm and it's embroidered on his uniform.
