The Kenyon-Wanamingo boys basketball team saw their season come to an abrupt end Tuesday night in Mapleton. The South Subsection of Section 2 AA No. 1-seed Maple River Eagles defeated the Knights 60-40. With just over two minutes to go in the first half it was a eight-point game and K-W had three straight opportunities to cut the lead down more, but couldn't cash in.

Sophomore Gavin Roosen was the only Knight in double figures with 15 points. Connor Sviggum tallied six and Ethan Benda had five. Stats were fairly even, with the Eagles scoring 24 points in the Jerry's Ace Hardware paint to K-W's 20. Both teams finished with four three-point baskets, and the Knights had just one more turnover in the game.

The glaring difference was found at the free throw line, where Maple River was 21 of 31 and K-W hit eight of 12 free throws. Maple River had four players score double digits.

The Knights ended their season with a 6-21 mark and said goodbye to eight seniors, who were named the Held Bus Service Knights of the night: Clint Irrthum, Ben Ringham, Eric Hokanson, Connor Sviggum, Devyn Stordahl, Tanner Warner, Edie Matul and Kwazi Spencer.

Maple River improves to 24-3 and will play the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Buccaneers on Friday night at Mankato East High School. The Bucs have defeated Maple River the two times they've played this season.
