Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights senior Gavin Roosen scored what is believed to be a school record-tying 37 points in a 72-51 win over Medford tonight in Kenyon.

The Knights pep band was there for the game that featured two teams seeking their first win of this season.

Kenyon-Wanamingo started last season 2-1 and did not win a game the rest of the year and came into tonight's game with an 0-16 record this season.

Knights head coach Ross Peterson told KDHL after the win his team's intensity on both ends of the floor appeared to be the difference in the game. Kenyon-Wanamingo scored 29 points off 21 Medford turnovers and turned the ball over just seven times themselves. Medford scored five points off those turnovers.

The Knights had a 34-24 halftime lead and Roosen had 20 points at the half. He finished the game with five three-point baskets and was 8 of 10 from the free throw line.

Obviously the 6-foot-1 Roosen was one of our Held Bus Service of Kenyon Knights of the game along with fellow senior Calvin Steberg with 14 points and junior Chance Washburn with multiple rebounds and eight points.

Medford does not have a single senior on their squad and that might have been a factor in the Knights' favor also. Kenyon-Wanamingo has five seniors and they didn't want the season to end without a victory.

Medford was paced offensively by junior Ben Sutcliffe with 20 points.

The Tigers had nine three-point baskets in the game and were 9 of 12 from the free throw line. Kenyon-Wanamingo finished 21 of 31 from the charity stripe.

The Tigers host United South Central on Friday night while Kenyon-Wanamingo is at Cannon Falls. The Knights game in the Bombers Hangar will be on KDHL, with coverage beginning about 7PM.

After the game, Peterson brought a ladder from home onto the court and some scissors and had his team cut down the net as reward for their hard work. They also took a team picture.

You could see a huge weight had been lifted off their shoulders with smiles beaming for the picture.
