The Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights were down 12-7 in the fifth set at the Launching Pad in Kasson Thursday night and reeled off 8 straight points to win the match.

It was one of the most amazing comebacks I've seen in rally scoring.

Knights sophomore Ally Peterson stood behind the service line for all of their points at the end of the match.

I'm sure Komet Head Coach Adam VanOort would say mistakes by his team are what cost them the match.

It was a battle of two teams in the Others receiving votes category of the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association Class 2A high school volleyball poll.

The two teams played for third place in the State Tournament last November and I could see them possibly playing against each other at the tournament again this season.

I had Kasson-Mantorville 6'0 junior Payton Suess with 18 kills and Kenyon-Wanamingo was led by Peterson's 14 kills.  Those are unofficial statistics.

Efficiency is what got Kasson-Mantorville the lead in the fifth set and then that went out the window along with some great Knights plays.

Julianna Boyum got an ace block at the center of the net against Payton Suess to score one of the final points for Kenyon-Wanamingo.

The first set was quite frankly an ugly one for both teams.

There were a lot of mistakes.  Hitting errors, serving errors, serve receive mistakes, you name it but Kasson-Mantorville won it 25-19.

The Komets had a set point in the second set but the Knights scored a 27-25 victory to even the match.

Kenyon-Wanamingo sophomore Megan Mattson had a great set with 5 kills.

The Knights took advantage of five service errors by the Komets in the third set and ten errors total by my count to win the third set 25-22 and take a 2-1 lead.

Kasson-Mantorville had five ace serves in the fourth set and won 25-20 before the dramatic fifth set.

Stewartville also swept Cannon Falls Thursday night making Kenyon-Wanamingo and the Tigers tied atop the H-V-L standings with a conference match left for both teams.

Stewartville is at Zumbrota-Mazeppa Tuesday.  Kasson-Mantorville is at Lake City and Kenyon-Wanamingo hosts Pine Island for senior night and that match will be on the radio.
