Fifteen ace serves is a lot in any volleyball match, and the Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights had that many in a sweep of Kasson-Mantorville in the Castle in Kenyon on Tuesday night.

Senior Megan Flom led the way with six ace serves, and four other Knights tallied the others: Mia Peterson, Kasey Dummer, Mara Quam and Maddie McCauley.

The Knights won by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-8.

Kenyon-Wanamingo started hot in the first set while rolling to their 25-14 win. Unofficially, Flom had five kills and Mara Quam three to lead in that department. Flom had two ace serves, McCauley one and Dummer one.

Junior Corynne Dahl did a nice job blocking at the net along with Flom, and Mara Quam did her usual superwoman impression flying to the ball from all over the court and hammering it over the net.

In the second set, Kasson-Mantorville jumped out to a good lead and it appeared they were going to even things up before Kenyon-Wanamingo fought their way back into the set and pulled away to win 25-17.

Quam was key in the comeback, with six kills in the set unofficially. Megan Flom and freshman Ally Peterson added three each and Dahl again was strong at the net.

The Knights pulled away in the third set and Kasson-Mantorville looked like they really didn't want to be in the newly refurbished Castle gym.

The Komets came into the match 3-0 in the Hiawatha Valley League and the win keeps a Knight goal of a conference championship alive as they go to 3-0, but things don't get any easier. Kenyon-Wanamingo travels to Byron on Thursday night.

Kasson-Mantorville came into the match ranked No. 9 in the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association poll for Class AA and Kenyon-Wanamingo was rated No. 3 after being in the top spot the first few weeks of the young season.

Before the match, Knights head coach Jen Nerison awarded a ball commemorating Mara Quam's 1,000th kill tallied during the Wabasha-Kellogg Tournament last weekend.

The new paint job on the Castle floor looks awesome.

Our Sviggum Insurance Agency Knights of the match were Quam, Flom, Dummer and Dahl.

Our Preferred Heating and Cooling of Kasson Komets of the match were sophomore Peyton Suess and seniors Jesse Riker and Kendra Stenzel, who appeared to have the most consistent nights on the floor for Kasson-Mantorville.

Komets head coach Adam VanOort told me before the match consistency was the biggest problem plaguing his club. Of course, virtually every coach would tell you that's what they strive for, consistency.
