It took me about as long to drive to Kenyon and back to Faribault on Tuesday night as it took the Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights to defeat Cannon Falls 69-9 in the Castle.

The No. 1 rated Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights were behind 9-0 before they reeled off 69 points, 30 of them came from forfeits. The Knights also racked up six falls.

The quickest pin was executed by sophomore Tyler Ryan at 152 pounds in 25 seconds. Ryan is ranked fourth in the state at 145 pounds in the Class A individual rankings by Guillotine Magazine.

Sophomore Erwin Strelow scored a fall in 1:22 for Cannon Falls to make the score 9-0 through 113 pounds.

The Bombers sent nobody out to the mat to face No. 1 rated 113-pound Jeron Matson at 120 pounds. The sophomore is closing in on 100 career wins.

The next three matches all ended in first period falls by Tyler Craig, Bradley Kish and Seth Brossard to put big seperation from Cannon Falls.

Following a forfeit at 145 pounds, the Knights got falls at 152 and 160 by Tyler Ryan and Dylan Craig.

Cannon Falls forfeited at 170 pounds and their 160-pound 10th-ranked Class 2A sophomore Hayden Strain weighed in at 170 but was bumped up to 182.

That was the best match of the night with Class A No. 10 rated 170-pound Peyton Hilke facing Strain, rated No. 10 in Class 2A at 160 pounds. It was 1-0 Strain going into the third period when Hilke got a couple of quick takedowns and Strain had an escape to finish in a 4-2 Hilke win.

Kenyon-Wanamingo will be unveiling their new state wrestling championship banner during a triangular event December 22 in the Castle. Lake City and Lake Crystal-Wellcome-Memorial will be visiting that night.

Kenyon-Wanamingo head coach Matt Ryan told KDHL he has been impressed with his team early in the season after replacing seven key wrestlers from last year's squad.

Ryan noted many of his backups last season would have started for a lot of teams and been very good wrestlers for them and now they get to shine on the mat for the Kenyon-Wanamingo communities.
