Summer is long, and if you're looking for a fun activity to fill some of your child's summer break, the Kids Bowl Free program might be exactly what you've been hoping for.

According to the website kidsbowlfree.com, "This program is designed by bowling centers to give back to the community and provide a safe, secure, and fun way for kids to spend time this summer."

Children younger than 15 can register, and once signed up will be able to get two free games of bowling per day. Some participating bowling alleys have restricted hours, or only allow the program to be used on weekdays, so make sure to check your local center's available times and dates. Additionally, some of the places may have a one-time registration fee.

It's estimated that a summer spent with two free games of bowling a day is valued at more than $500. Shoe rental options differ by location - some include it, and others you will have to rent the shoes. Call the bowling alley you sign up for to see what their policy is. Sign up here. The website says that more than 14.1 million kids have participated in the Kids Bowl Free program.

Participating bowling alleys in our area include the Wow Zone Family Entertainment Center in Mankato, the Apple Place Bowl in Apple Valley, Jesse James Lanes in Northfield, Borough Bowl in Belle Plaine, and Bowlocity Entertainment Center and Colonial Lanes Inc. in Rochester.
