The Faribault Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, South Central College and the Center for Business and Industry are presenting "Made in Faribault" Day.

Manufacturing accounts for a significant portion of the region's economy, specifically in Faribault, where 26.5 percent percent of the workforce is in manufacturing.

That percentage is higher than Rice County (20 percent) and the state (13 percent), according to statistics from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

Thursday's event is an effort to increase awareness of the diverse manufacturing businesses in the area.

Event organizers say there continues to be a misconception about the career opportunities and stability of manufacturing jobs in Faribault.

A manufacturer's luncheon is being held at South Central College tomorrow. Presenters will be Regional Labor Market Analyst Mark Schultz, South Central College President Dr. Annette Parker and Faribault Foods CEO Gary Kindseth.

Tours of various manufacturing plants are being conducted and more than 100 high school students will be attending the luncheon and going on the tours.

We will get more details on AM Minnesota at 9:30AM.
