The Faribault Bethlehem Academy Cardinals will probably have nightmares of 6-foot-1 Maple River senior Brandon Sohre the next few nights.

Sohre poured in 31 points, including six three-pointers in a 70-40 win over Bethlehem Academy on Friday night.

Sohre connected on four threes in the first half and had 18 points at the half.

Maple River led 38-25 at halftime and the Cardinals had their chances to get it to single digits late in the half.

In the second half, Maple River ratcheted up the defense and showed everyone why they have allowed the fewest points per game in the Gopher Conference.

Bethlehem Academy did not get their first field goal in the second half until there was 5:32 to go in the game.

The Cardinals did shoot their free throws well (17 of 20) but just could not match up with the Eagles.

For example, Bethlehem Academy had one three-point basket and Maple River finished with nine.

The Eagles came into the game giving up an average of 42 points per game and the Cardinals' average defensive effort was allowing 57 points.

Offensively Maple River averaged 64 points while Bethlehem Academy scored 56.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the game were 6-foot-0 junior Brendan Trump and 6-foot-0 sophmore Avery Hunt.

Both came out aggressive to start the game.

Trump finished with 11 points and was six of eight from the free throw line and Hunt added 10 points and was very active in the game.

Maple River remains unbeaten in the conference (6-0) and is now 14-2 overall. Bethlehem Academy falls to 1-5 in the league and 5-11 overall.
