Scottsdale, AZ (KROC AM News) - Mayo Clinic’s medical school in Arizona began its first year of classes last week.

Officially known as Mayo Clinic School of Medicine–Arizona Campus, the school’s inaugural class has 50 students. Plans call for enrollment to steadily increase to 200 when the full four-year program finishes implementation in 2020.

The school is located at Mayo’s sprawling campus in Scottsdale, near Phoenix.

In partnership with Arizona State University, medical students at all Mayo Clinic campuses will be the first in the country to receive a certificate in the science of health care delivery jointly conferred with ASU, along with their medical degree from Mayo Clinic.

Mayo also operates a medical school at its Florida campus. The Rochester med school opened in 1972.
