Father Victor Valencia of the Church of St. Patrick in Shieldsville will be stopping by KDHL for AM Minnesota at 9:30 this morning. We will be discussing the Bais Bay Medical Mission 2018 trip to the Philippines he is a part of and how you and I can help.

The church is having a fundraiser on Friday, June 23, with music and food featured.

Father Valencia has lined up a concert pianist and a tenor soloist and the meal will be catered by Lakeside Supper Club of New Prague.

Medical supplies and equipment are donated and the doctors and nurses all volunteer their time. The mission trip to the Bais District Hospital will be February 11-17 next year.

In 2015, the Philippine Statistics Authority identified Negroes Oriental Province (equivalent to our state) as one of the poorest in the Philippines. The poverty incidence rate was 45 percent, more than double the national poverty incident rate of 21.6 percent.

The Foundation for Philippine Medical Missions, in partnership with the Negrenes Del Oriental de Minnesota and the local government units, are organizing the medical mission trip.

Despite the donations of equipment and time there are some expenses, and that's why the money is needed.

For example, the shipment and storage of three 40-foot container vans from Minnesota to the Philippines must be paid for, as well as customs duties and taxes for the shipment. Food and housing is needed for the more than 100 people volunteering their time, and local transportation will be needed also. The total estimated costs for this is $55,000.

If you can't join us at 9:30AM, watch the program on our YouTube channel and learn how you can help this literally life-saving mission.
