Metallica's Death Magnetic track "The Day That Never Comes" almost seemed to foreshadow the lengthy wait that came between the 2008 album and the freshly released Hardwired... To Self Destruct. Fans waited a seeming eternity for the next slab of Metallica music, but it's been worth it as the band has given back to their fans all throughout the campaign buildup and release day is no exception!

In celebration of Hardwired... To Self-Destruct hitting shelves and webstores today, Metallica have become the first heavy metal band to land their own Twitter emoji. The band's signature slanted 'M' from their logo will now accompany the hashtags #metallica, #blackenedfriday and #hardwiredtoselfdestruct as pictured below in a pair of tweets sent out by Metallica.

Additionally, fans can have a little fun turning their name, or any word they choose, into a custom Metallica-like logo as seen in the transformation to the Loudwire logo at the top of the page. Generate your own logo here, which gives the ability to download the image or share it straight to Facebook or Instagram.

Today (Nov. 18) also marks 'Blackened Friday.' The event saw 100 select record stores across North America open their doors to eager metalheads at midnight as they anxiously waited to become some of the first to purchase Hardwired... To Self-Destruct. The celebratory day also saw these stores participate in giveaways, offering unique items like vinyl slipmats and more. Get your copy at the Metallica webstore and tune into the band's live stream at House of Vans in London at 4PM ET here.
