With all the time off over the Thanksgiving weekend I had a chance to take in the Harry Potter prequel J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Released just a couple of weeks ago, this fantasy film has been racking up some nice numbers for Warner Bros. Pictures and, according to the Hollywood Reporter, as of just a few hours ago it has grossed $161 million domestically and $344 million in foreign markets. Over the weekend it came in second at the box office, bested by only by the recently released animated Disney movie, Moana.

I found Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them to be a fun and interesting movie. Clocking in at a little over two hours, it moves along a pretty good pace and is a well-balanced mix of action, fantasy and comedy. The CGI is amazing and a lot of the scenes are quite mesmerizing. The tone of this film is more in line with a grown-up Harry Potter watching audience and, in a way, there is more than one bad guy. I'm not giving anything away but Colin Farrell turns in a great performance as one of these bad guys and Eddie Redmayne, who plays the movies hero Newt Scamander, is an interestingly quirky character.

If you enjoyed all the Harry Potter movies you'll definitely want to take this one in before it leaves the theaters -- most of the scenes in this movie are larger than life and won't seem as magical on your television screen.
