This great prize package got me thinking about what my favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers singles are. I figured I'd pick my top five tunes out of the more than 40 singles they've released over their career.

Higher Ground
This was the song that introduced me to the Chili Peppers. By then they had four studio albums under their belt. This Stevie Wonder cover was the first single from that fourth record, Mother's Milk.

Give It Away
This tune was the lead single from their fifth studio album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik. It was also their first No. 1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Modern Rock Tracks in 1991.

Breaking the Girl
This track is supposedly about lead singer Anthony Keidis' turbulent relationship with a former girlfriend and also comes from the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

The title track from their June 1999 release and seventh studio album. It topped both the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock and Alternative Songs charts at No. 1.

By The Way
This single is also the title track from their eighth studio album. It turned out to be their sixth No. 1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Modern Tracks chart.
