Ozzy Osbourne turns 68 years old on Saturday, December 3. As a part of one of the most influential heavy metal bands to come out of the '60s, Ozzy's fog horn vocals gave Black Sabbath the distinct sound that helped propel them to fame. As a solo artist, he reinvented himself and over the years he surrounded himself with great musicians such as Randy Rhodes, Jake E. Lee, Tommy Aldridge, Randy Castillo, Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde and the list goes on. He then found himself back in the spotlight on another venue, appearing as himself on the MTV reality television show The Osbournes, along with Sharon, his wife, and Kelly and Jack, two of their three children.

I've always enjoyed Black Sabbath but the music during his solo career was my favorite. I remember picking up his 1980 Blizzard of Ozz release on eight-track and continuously rocking out to it for the next few days in my car. The November 1981 release Diary of a Madman was a Christmas present from my wife and I've purchased every album that he has released over the years since then. Here are my five favorite solo Ozzy hits:

  • 1

    Crazy Train

The first single from Blizzard of Ozz and Ozzy's first solo hit.

  • 2

    Over the Mountain

This is the opening track on Diary of a Madman and made it to No. 38 on the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock chart in 1982.

  • 3

    Bark at the Moon

The title track and first single from his 1983 release. This single peaked at No. 12 on the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.

  • 4

    Road to Nowhere

From his sixth studio album, No More Tears, this single topped out at No. 3 on the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart.

  • 5

    I Don't Wanna Stop

From his 10th studio album, Black Rain, released in 2007, this is Ozzy's first single to reach No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.
