I've mentioned that Rush is my all-time favorite band, and thought that today I'd take the time to list off my favorite Rush singles. Now I'm going to admit that I prefer the old-school Rush music from their earlier albums, from their 1974 self-titled release to their sixth studio album released in 1978, Hemispheres. These albums tend to feature songs that tell stories of fantasy and science fiction and rebellion. The worst thing is trying to chose just five because I like all of their earlier singles that they released and, despite the fact that the charts didn't bear out their popularity in the earlier years, these songs are still hugely popular with their fans. One other observation I've made about the band over the years, people either really like them or they don't like them at all. I've never met anyone who walked the middle ground when it comes to Rush.

So in no particular order of importance (I will list them in chronological order though), here are my Top Five Rush singles:

  • 1

    Fly By Night

Released in May 1975, it was the first single released outside of Canada.

  • 2

    Lakeside Park

Lakeside Park actually exists and can be found on the shore of Port Dalhousie on the south shore of Lake Ontario in Canada.

  • 3

    A Passage to Bangkok

Although it is the second track on their release 2112, it is the first track on side two of the album, with the first track titled "2112" taking up all of side one, which is itself broken up into seven sections.

  • 4

    Cinderella Man

From the first Rush album I ever heard, A Farewell to Kings. I hated the way this band sounded the first time I heard it, but soon found myself warming up to their unique sound and song lyrics.

  • 5

    The Trees

A song about the conflict between oaks and maples in a forest, how can you go wrong?
