Multi-time Minnesota state high school champion wrestler Sam Stoll of Kasson-Mantorville, who now competes for the University of Iowa, was shot during a recent incident at a residence. He now faces charges after lying to police in what happened to lead to being shot by a friend.

In the original media report from The Daily Iowan, Stoll was accidentally shot in the knee in the early morning hours of June 19. There were several people at the house when it occurred and he was quickly taken to the hospital.

In a follow-up posting on The Guillotine website, Stoll now faces charges in the case after initially telling police he accidentally shot himself. After police investigated the series of events, officers determined his story was not authentic, according to the Iowa City Press-Citizen. Stoll admitted he lied when approached by police and said he was playing a prank on a friend when he got shot.

Iowa wrestling coach Tom Brands is quoted in the Press-Citizen as saying, "I am disappointed in his actions related to this incident, as they do not reflect our values."

Stoll underwent surgery June 19 and left the hospital shortly afterward. He has battled knee injuries during his college career. Stoll compiled a 25-6 record last season and finished fifth at the NCAA tournament. He is 54-14 in his career and has one year of eligibility remaining. It's not reported how the injury will affect his ability to wrestle.
