The Minnesota Historical Society and Minnesota Department of Administration have plans for celebrating the $310 million restoration of the State Capitol. Events are planned for the weekend of August 11-13.

Historical Society interpreters will lead free tours of the Capitol all weekend long. Free 45-minute tours will begin every half-hour on Friday from 10AM to 10PM, Saturday from 8AM to 10PM and Sunday 9AM to 8PM.

Some of the new things to take note of include the paintings "Father Hennepin Discovering the Falls of St. Anthony" and "The Treaty of Traverse des Sioux." You will have the opportunity to learn about Minnesota's three different state Capitol buildings. Also on display will be some newly discovered construction photos from 1896-1905.

There will also be newly restored Civil War artwork in the Governor's Reception Room and portraits of Minnesota's governors will be on display as well

The restoration project took over three years to complete.
