Jerry Reminisces: Muscle Cars In My Day
Mike and Doug restored this beautiful Monte Carlo, and it brought back memories of my high school days. Their shop is close to the studio, and I was able to watch this old car come back to life. They put a brand new 572-cubic-inch engine in it and it truly is a muscle car. Even with a smaller engine, this Monte would have been a great car to have when I was in high school.
Back then you would jack up the rear end of your car, put wide tires (meats) on and modify the engine for more power. When front-wheel drive cars were developed, a whole era of muscle cars disappeared. Kind of silly to put big meats on the back end of a front-wheel drive car. Today you see "kids" driving a little car with a four-cylinder engine and loud mufflers on it to make them sound like a muscle car. I would take this Monte Carlo, a real muscle car any day!
