New Regional Director for DNR Southern Region Named

Scott Roemhildt was named the regional director for the DNR’s southern region, according to a news release from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.   Roemhildt is filling the office after Dennis Frederickson retired on Feb. 6.

The news release says, “Scott Roemhildt brings a wealth of knowledge to the position,” said DNR deputy commissioner Dave Schad. “His experience with building bridges between conservation groups and the agriculture industry makes him well-equipped to handle the many important issues in the southern region.”

Headquartered in New Ulm, the DNR’s southern region is comprised of 32 counties stretching from Mower County in the southeast to Big Stone County in its northwest corner.

The news release goes on to quote the new Regional Director, “I’m honored to have the opportunity,” Roemhildt said. “I look forward to working with the public as well as the many passionate and professional colleagues within the department.”

Roemhildt is a native of Waseca County. He has been with the DNR since 2011 and has held various leadership roles within the department, most recently as coordinator of the DNR’s Walk-In Access program. He will continue to lead that successful program.

Prior to the Minnesota DNR, Roemhildt held positions with Pheasants Forever, AgStar Financial, Hubbard Milling Company, and as adjunct faculty at Minnesota State University-Mankato.

Roemhildt is an avid outdoorsman, spending time with his family hunting, camping, snowshoeing, and making maple syrup.

He has been a guest on our KDHL Midday Report Friday DNR segment a number of times over the last year.
