The Faribault Falcon girls and boys basketball teams host Northfield on Friday night in a Coaches vs. Cancer event at Nomeland Gym.

Both games will be broadcast on Power 96 Radio, with coverage beginning about 5:45PM for the girls; the boys are scheduled to begin about 8PM.

For the boys it will be Faribault's season opener and for the girls they will be facing another Big Nine Conference favorite after knocking off Rochester Mayo 53-45 on Tuesday night in the same gym.

The Northfield Raider boys are ranked 11th in the Class 3A poll and the Raider girls are rated 15th.

Defending state girls champion Goodhue is rated tops in Class A and the Wildcat boys, who finished second at last year's state tournament, are rated No. 7 in Class A.

Caledonia is the top-ranked Class 2A boys team and Minneapolis North is picked to repeat in Class A.

Minneapolis DeLasalle is tops in Class 3A and favored to win their sixth straight state title.

Champlin Park is rated No. 1 in Class 4A and Lakeville North comes in second.

On the girls side, in addition to Goodhue repeating for a state title the Minnesota Basketball News has Lyle-Pacelli rated 16th in Class A.

Watertown-Mayer is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A with defending state champs Plainview-Elgin-Millville rated third and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva being picked 11th.

Hutchinson tops the Class 3A girls basketball poll with Winona second, Kasson-Mantorville eighth, Waseca ninth and Northfield 15th.

Watertown-Mayer is picked to top the Class 2A girls poll and Hopkins sits atop Class 4A.
