The Faribault Falcon and Northfield Raider football teams had not played a regular season game against each other since 1967.

Friday night the Battle of Rice County was renewed with Northfield hoisting the Cannon Trophy following a 24-0 win at Memorial Field in Northfield.

Faribault Activities Director Danny Duchene brought the trophy with him and told POWER 96 Radio listeners during the Faribault Foods halftime report the trophy games are always fun because of the tradition involved.

Northfield had a 17-0 halftime lead.

The Raiders first touchdown drive seemed to set the tone for the game.

Faribaut received the opening kick and could do nothing in their first offensive series.  Senior punter Dylan O'Neil kicked from his own end zone and senior Carter Hodapp was immediately brought down at the 35 yard line.

The officials threw a flag on Faribault for interference with the returner and Northfield got to start their first offensive series of the game at the Falcon 20 yard line.

Two plays later senior Brandon Foster was in the end zone from 11 yards out and the Raiders never looked back.

Faribault has yet to score this season and did have a few series where they moved the ball well.

One of those was the second series of the game when their line opened some holes and they did pick up a couple first downs before stalling and punting.

Northfield started their second series on their 13 yard line and went right down the field before senior quarterback Lars Prestemon capped off the drive with a 10 yard touchdown with 6.7 seconds to go in the first quarter.

The final score of the first half was a 28 yard field goal by senior kicker Rylie Wefel with 2:26 to go in the half.

Northfield second half score came with 20.9 seconds to go in the third quarter when Prestemoen dove into the end zone from one yard out.

Our Chappuis Jewelers of Faribault Gem Play of the Game was a nice catch out of the backfield by junior running back Joe Palmer.

The 6'1 190 pound fullback hurdled a would be tackler before being upended and bounced up firing up his team.

Palmer was named one of our Faribault State Farm Insurance Agents, Faribault players of the game along with quarterback Dylan Vargo and the offensive line.

The line had some breakdowns but looked very good in a few of the Faribault series.

Tackles Dillon McEachron and Quinnton Howell and guards Derek Bokelman  and Jordan Cook were joined by center Cal Schultz.

The defensive players were Max McDonough, Emerson Hunter, Jack Grevious and Cade McAdam.

Faribault State Farm Insurance agents are Jason Krohn and Tony Langerud.

Next week Northfield hosts New Prague and Faribault entertains Austin.
