Northfield Girls Hockey Senior Night Celebrated with Win Over Faribault

Eight Northfield seniors were honored before the Thursday night game against the Faribault Falcons and they did not disappoint their fans.

Northfield skated to a 3-1 win and dominated control of the puck for most of the game.

There was no scoring in the first period and there were no penalties. Northfield out shot Faribault 11-5 in the first period. The Raiders scored their first goal :51 into the second period.

It did not officially go into the book as a power play goal but Faribault sophomore Emily Wilder broke her stick and was heading back to the bench to get a new one while Northfield was attacking the Faribault goal.

Senior Madi Goldsworthy scored her 11th goal of the season on senior Maddie Lapanta's 13th assist.

Senior defenseman Brynn Puppe collected her 100th career point 5:30 into the second period on an unassisted power play goal. At 10:33 of the second period Faribault senior Alexis Ferris scored a power play goal unassisted, her 13th of the season. Puppe scored her second goal in the third period 7:06 into the period.

Faribault was held without a shot for nearly the entire third period. The Falcons peppered the net with six shots in the final two minutes of the game after pulling junior goaltender Camryn Salmonsen.

Salmonsen had 31 saves and junior Northfield goaltender Mallory Tidona stopped 20 shots.

The two-point win brought Northfield to within a point of Faribault in the Big Nine standings. Faribault has 20 points in third place and Northfield now has 19. The two teams will square off again in Faribault in a couple of weeks.

The eight seniors honored before the game for Northfield were Brynn Puppe, Reggie Gargrave, Sarah Stowe, Maddi Lapanta, Olivia Keske, Kate Bornhauser, Natalie Neumann and Marissa Ruppe.
