There will be no rematch between Lakeville North and Lakeville South for the Section One Class 3A Championship Saturday.

Maybe now the Northfield Raiders can get some respect after defeating the #3 ranked Lakeville South Cougars 3-1 in semi-final action in Rochester Wednesday night.

The Raiders have just two losses on the season and were not ranked in the top ten in Class 3A all year.

I've said virtually all season they deserved to be in the top ten.

Northfield not only went undefeated in matches in the Big Nine this season but did not drop a single set during conference play.

The only Minnesota school they lost to was Marshall.

And there is no shame in saying that.

The other school was an outstanding River Falls, Wisconsin team in the Cannon Falls Tournament Championship.

Lakeville South was Co-Champion of the South Suburban Conference with Lakeville North and Eagan this season.

Northfield won the first set over Lakeville South 25-22 before losing the second 25-17.

The pivotal third set was a thriller with the Raiders coming out on top 26-24.

Northfield put the match away with a 25-20 fourth set victory and will now play #2 rated Lakeville North in the Section Championship match this Saturday 3:00 p.m. at the Rochester Mayo Civic Center Arena.

Lakeville North swept Rochester Century in the other semi-final contest 25-21, 25-17, 25-15.

In Section 3 Class 3A semi-final competition the top ranked Eagan Wildcats breezed to 25-9, 25-17, 25-14 wins over Eastview while East Ridge swept Rosemount 25-14, 25-20, 25-17.

The Section 3 title match will be 6:00 p.m. Saturday at Prior Lake High School.
