NRHEG’s Carlie Wagner to Play Pro Basketball in Spain

Two-time state high school champion and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva graduate Carlie Wagner confirmed on her Twitter page Monday (@CarlieJoWagner) that she will play professional basketball in Spain.

Wagner was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx this past spring. She practiced and played limited minutes during the preseason but was released in mid-May. After winning the state titles and amassing the second highest point total in Minnesota girls' basketball history, Wagner played four seasons with the Golden Gophers.

Wagner ranked third in all-time scoring for the University of Minnesota. She was selected as an All-Big Ten First Team player. She also earned numerous academic awards.

In her announcement Monday, she stated, "Very excited and blessed for the opportunity." Club Deportivo Zamarat is based in Zamora in western Spain. The team has won a couple of league titles over the years. Their season starts in September and plays through the winter.

Many former American college players dot the rosters of teams in the league.
