The Pine Island Legion team won both their games Friday to remain in the winner's bracket of the 3rd District American Legion baseball tournament being hosted by Cologne and Norwood.

Pine Island defeated Norwood 3-2 in Cologne in their opener and then downed Belle Plaine 2-1 to advance on the right side of the bracket.

Pine Island will play Holy Family at 1:30PM today in Cologne and, if they win, would play next Saturday with a chance to be sitting in the proverbial driver's seat waiting for teams to battle to play them for the tournament title.

When the Legion tournament was in Cologne in 2013, Pine Island won it.

The other remaining teams without losses after two games are Plato and Watertown.

League G Champion Randolph lost both their games Saturday and ended their season. They lost to Elysian-Morristown 3-1 in their opener and were defeated by St. Peter 8-2.

Cannon Falls won their first game 5-3 over Southwest Christian and then fell to Holy Trinity 6-5. Cannon Falls plays at 4PM today in Norwood against St. Peter and, if they win, would resume action Friday in Cologne at 7:30PM against Belle Plaine or Le Seuer-Henderson.

Other League G teams in the tournament include Kenyon and Zumbrota-Mazeppa. Z-M was beaten by Belle Plaine 4-0 and succumbed to Norwood 11-7. Kenyon defeated Le Seuer-Henderson 3-2 and lost to perennial power Plato 3-0.

Kenyon Post 78 plays at 11AM in Cologne against Norwood and, if they win, would return to Cologne on Friday to play either Elysian-Morristown or Montgomery.
