Pirates will land on the shores of the Straight River at Morehouse Park in Owatonna August 12-13 for the Iowa-Minnesota Pirate Festival. Prepare for a swashbuckling good time.

Morehouse Park and chalet will transform into Port Royale, featuring performers, shows, merchants, games of skill, rides and hands-on activities. The weekend will also include treasure hunts and food and beverage. Hand-crafted items will be sold at the merchant's bazaar.

Three stages of entertainment will showcase more than 30 shows. Acts called Captain Rapier Wit's Fire, Pirate Merlyn Majik and Crazy Boy Coy make up the bill. Locals can win prizes in costume and tattoo contests. Pirate-want-to-be's can test their skills at knife and ax throwing or kiddie archery.

This fourth annual event has been held in Clear Lake, Iowa, each of the past three years. In a press release, event organizer Gregory Schmidt of Festivals International says, "Having served as a tourist attraction in northern Iowa for three summers, it is time to grow the festival for a wider population in a larger setting."

Admission is $10 for the day or $15 for a two-day pass for adults. Kids ages 5-15 are $5. Those younger than 5 are free. Parking is free.
