Playing On The Same Field As The Minnesota Twins

It's happened to some of our local athletes before. Being able to play where the professionals play. Whether it was US Bank Stadium, TCF Bank Stadium, the Metrodome, or Target Field, there is just something magical about being on the same field that your favorite sports team plays on. I had that opportunity Monday morning when the Minnesota Twins and the Treasure Island Twins Radio Network hosted a bunch of radio people to come to take batting practice, shag fly balls, take infield practice and to tour the stadium. 

I have been to Target Field in the past, at least once a year since it opened. But I've never had the opportunity to be on the field or in the dugout. What a great way to spend a Monday morning! Our group, Scotty Matthews, and Samm Adams from KROC-FM, Val from Z- Rock, Luke Lonien of KFIL, and Roy Koenig of KRFO all took batting practice to start the day. Of the 6 of us, Luke tore more covers off the ball than the dog from The Sandlot.

After BP we rotated to the outfield to shag fly balls hit our way as other groups hit, then it was off to pitching instruction with Bert Blyleven one of my all-time favorite Twins and broadcasters. There wasn't a whole lot of pitching going on as Bert was busy telling us stories from his days playing baseball. After our 20 minutes with Bert it was back to the outfield specifically left field. We weren't getting a lot of balls hit our way so Dan Gladden took measures into his own hands and started to hit grounders and soft line drives to us to keep us busy. Wow, Samm Adams can flash the leather!

Our last stop of the day we were led on a short tour of the area behind the Twins dugout. Our guide has been with the Twins over 50 years and has been documenting important moments, and collecting uniforms, bats, and balls for every milestone along the way.

It's not every day, or really that often I can cross something like this off my bucket list but I managed to do that today! Many thanks to the Minnesota Twins for allowing us out on such a great day for baseball!
