The Power 96 Cool One artist I chose for yesterday, Atlanta Rhythm Section, is a southern rock band that, while they never achieved the same success as the Allman Brothers or Lynyrd Skynyrd, garnered several hits over the mid- to late '70s and early '80s. I tracked an early hit by them, a 1976 single called "Jukin'" off their Red Tape album. "Jukin'" made it to No. 82 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, which was three notches lower than their other single from the album, "Free Spirit." Red Tape didn't fare as well, only making it to No. 146 on the Billboard 200.

Atlanta Rhythm Section was one of the first bands I saw in concert. It was one of those times where a bunch of friends were going and one of them couldn't go, so I was able to score his ticket. It was a daylong affair featuring several bands including Jay Ferguson, Ironhorse, Climax Blues Band, ARS and more. It was also the concert I learned that you get what you pay for when I picked up a cheap counterfeit t-shirt after the show and it basically fell apart after the first wash, a lesson well learned.

Don't miss today's Power 96 Cool One brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts at 4:35 when I track a band featuring Joe Lynn Turner and, no, it's not Rainbow.
