Yesterday's Power 96 Cool One came from a southern rock outfit called Blackberry Smoke. From their 2012 album, The Whippoorwill, I chose the track "Ain't Much Left of Me," a single they released that same year that failed to chart for them. The album scored them a No. 40 spot on the U.S. Billboard 200 and a No. 12 on the U.S. Rock Album charts; they even managed to perform well on the UK charts, going to No. 30.

It's hard to pin these guys down because their sound isn't quite southern rock but it isn't quite country either and they chart well in both genres, especially their latest effort, Holding All the Roses, which was just released in February of this year and went to No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Top Country Albums chart and No. 29 on the U.S. Billboard 200. Plus they've opened for a variety of bands such as Eric Church, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Zac Brown Band and they're currently touring with ZZ Top.

If you'd like to see these guys live on TV, watch for them performing the tune "Rock and Roll Again," on Conan on Monday, Sept. 14.

Today's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts, comes from a solo project by an artist known for his four-octave vocal range. Listen at 4:35 and find out who it is.
