On Thursday the Power 96 Cool One was Blue Murder’s “Jelly Roll” from their April 1989 self-titled release. This English heavy metal band was founded by ex-Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake guitarist John Sykes and released only two studio albums before their label dropped them. Their aforementioned debut album was dedicated in memory of Thin Lizzy’s lead singer/songwriter and bassist, Phil Lynott. The album made it to No. 69 on the U.S. Billboard 200. “Jelly Roll” peaked at No. 15 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Their only other charting single, “We All Fall Down” from their 1994 album Nothin’ But Trouble, reached No. 35 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

Blue Murder is another one of those entertaining hair metal bands that never attained the fame that many of their counterparts achieved despite having all the right ingredients. Their eponymous album is filled with soaring vocals and guitars and I’ve always enjoyed listening to it.

Listen at 4:35PM this afternoon for the next Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly’s Auto Parts in Faribault.
