Yesterday's Power 96 Cool One was the title track from Bread's 1972 release, Guitar Man. Written by their lead singer, David Gates, it was their third No. 1 hit on the easy listening charts and it also went to No. 11 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Two other singles released from Guitar Man, "Sweet Surrender" and "Aubrey," made it to No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album itself peaked at No. 18 on the U.S. Billboard 200.

I'll admit it was a pretty laid-back tune for the first day back after a long three-day weekend. Labor Day and the first day of school usually signals the end of summer for most people and I'm just not quite ready to let go. So I chose "Guitar Man," a song that reminds me of my childhood summers hanging out at White Sands Pool in Faribault on a hot sunny day with WDGY blaring over the speakers. That song was one of many that inevitably would get played at some point in the afternoon, and every time I hear it I think of those days.

Today's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts in Faribault, features my favorite band. Tune in at 4:35PM to find out who it is.
