With David Bowie's unexpected death, I've decided to feature him as my Power 96 Cool One artist for the whole week. Whether you're a fan or not, Bowie has had an indelible impact upon the music industry in so many ways as he was always finding different ways to reinvent himself. I chose to spotlight his single "Lazarus" from Blackstar, an album he released on his 69th birthday, January 8, two days before his death. I don't have any current information about how well the single or album is doing, but given his popularity and a resurgent interest in his music upon his death, I'm sure sales will be brisk for a while.

I admire Bowie for how he handled his battle with cancer in a private, personal and creative fashion. I've read in various articles and news stories that most of his close friends were unaware of his health condition. I suspect that he hoped to be remembered more for the music and art he had created over his lifetime rather than pity and sadness as he slowly died from cancer. To this end he left his fans a beautiful gift, his final musical creation, Blackstar.

Tune in at 4:35PM for the next Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts in Faribault.
