I pulled a deep track from David Lee Roth's first full-length solo effort, Eat 'Em and Smile, for yesterday's Power 96 Cool One. The tune I featured was "Tobacco Road," a remake of a 1960 song written and recorded by John D. Loudermilk and later popularized by The Nashville Teens, who turned it into a No. 14 hit on the U.S. charts in 1964. Roth and his band put their own spin on the song and released it as a single; it climbed to No. 10 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Three other singles from Eat 'Em and Smile also charted: Yankee Rose at No. 10 and Goin' Crazy at No. 12 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and That's Life at No. 85 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

This afternoon's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts in Faribault, features a southern rock group that will be performing on Conan on Monday, Sept. 14. Listen at 4:35 today to find out who this band is.
