Emerson, Lake and Palmer's Keith Emerson passed away last Thursday, March 10, reportedly from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. A tragic, unnecessary end for a consummate artist thought to be one of the best keyboard players of the progressive rock genre. He was 71. I decided to play an ELP tune that's not usually heard on most classic rock stations, unlike of some of their better known hits like "Lucky Man," "From the Beginning" and "Karn Evil 9: First Impression, Pt. 2." The single I chose was "A Time and a Place" from their second studio album, Tarkus. Released in 1971 the album peaked at No. 9 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and went to No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, whereas the single was a stiff both here and England.

Please join me this afternoon at 4:35PM for the next Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts on Seventh Street in Faribault, when I feature an English band whose music has been influenced by Queen, the Stones and Oasis.
