Head East was the Power 96 Cool One artist that started this week off, and the single I chose to feature from them was "Fly By Night Lady" from their first studio release, Flat as a Pancake. This is the same album that spawned their hit "Never Been Any Reason," which went to No. 68 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. My Cool One choice, although it was released as a single, didn't chart at all. The album, which hit the record stores in 1974, managed to chart at No. 126 on the U.S. Billboard 200.

Formed in East Central, Illinios, Head East's original vocalist, John Schlitt, was fired from the band in 1980 over drug-related issues. After cleaning up his act he joined the Christian rock band Petra and stayed with them until the band disbanded in 2005.

This afternoon's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts in Faribault, comes from a band that The Red Rocker was a part of for their first two albums before a falling out with the band's founder.
