Last Friday's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts, came from Head East, off their album Flat as a Pancake. Head East is probably best known for their hit "Never Been Any Reason," released 30 years ago in 1975, which made it to No. 68 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The track I featured was "Fly by Night Lady," which didn't make it onto the charts. The only other charted single from that album was "Love Me Tonight."

Head East has always been a band that more popular in the Midwest than on the coasts going back to their early years when they received heavy rotation on several Midwest rock stations.

Head East was the first famous band I met. They were playing in a now-defunct bar in Faribault, and a group of friends, along with my wife and I, went there to see the show. We grabbed a few tables straight out from the stage and, before the band started playing, their lead singer at the time came out to our table to join us. He even ended up dedicating a few of the tunes to us throughout the night.

This afternoon's Power 96 Cool One comes from a band whose fans really took a shine to them in 1994. Make sure you're listening at 4:35 to find out who it is.
