Yesterday's Power 96 Cool One, "Wherever I May Roam" from Metallica's self-titled 1991 release, also known as The Black Album, went to No. 82 on the U.S. Billboard 100 and No. 25 on the U.S. Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. It was the fourth single of several released from the album. The album itself was their first No. 1 effort but not their last as they followed it up with Load, Reload, St. Anger and Death Magnetic all making it to No. 1 as well, with St. Anger, in my opinion, being the weakest of them all.

Before Metallica released their eponymous album they were known as a thrash metal band, but after the band's new producer, Bob Rock, worked with them, he brought out a more radio-friendly sound without losing their raw energy and sound. It wasn't easy though and conflicts did occur during production, which are well documented on the video "A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica." Luckily it was worth it, because what emerged from that struggle ended up as their best-selling album.

Today's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts, was touch and go for a while until I finally settled on a tune. Tune in at 4:35 p.m. to find out which one I chose.
