Last week the original drummer for Motorhead, Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, reportedly from liver failure at age 61. I was on vacation and had lined up all my Power 96 Cool Ones ahead of time so I wasn't able to feature anything by the band. Yesterday I decided to make up for that by featuring their trademark single, "Ace of Spades," which comes from their 1980 album by the same name. The single failed to chart in the U.S. but made it to No. 15 in the UK. The same thing happened with the album, which went to No. 4 in the UK but apparently didn't appear on the charts in the U.S. The album, which was released by Mercury Records, was also their debut release in North America and, in my opinion, is their most solid effort to date and very representative of the band overall.

Join me at 4:35PM this afternoon for the next Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts in Faribault.
