Yesterday I chose British rock group Mungo Jerry’s “In the Summertime” as my Power 96 Cool One. I thought it was appropriate for the day since it was sunny and humid day, like a good summer day should be, and a lot of people would probably hitting the beaches and pools.

“In the Summertime” is found on either their eponymous first album or their sophomore effort, Electronically Tested, depending on which printing you purchased. The single made it to No. 3 in the U.S. and No. 1 in the UK in 1970.

Fronted by Ray Dorset, the one constant in a constantly changing line-up, Mungo Jerry’s name was inspired by a T.S. Eliot poem titled “Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer.” Although "In the Summertime" was their biggest hit, they also had nine charting singles in the UK, five of those were in the Top 20.

Please join me this afternoon at 4:35PM for the next Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly’s Auto Parts on Seventh Street in Faribault.
